Sr. Reinsurance Accountant

Summary:
Preparation, payment and billing of treaty reinsurance cessions (of moderate to high complexity) based upon the reinsurance contracts. Maintain assigned treaty files/folder including contract terms, audit trails of reinsurance settlements and maintain relevant information about the treaty. Summary:
Mentor/supervise less experienced associates. Monthly reconciliation of General Ledger and subledger accounts. Schedule F preparation and analysis of actual reinsurance payments made vs. planned/forecasted payments. Liaison with internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Reviews reinsurance data set and prepares premium bordereaux, loss bordereaux and summary cession statement. Handle any issues that may arise.
- Reconciles tracking system accounts to general ledger for accuracy of data.
- Prepares reconciliation of statements and accounts to system subledger accounts to ensure accuracy.
- Contacts claims and underwriting staff on all issues requiring their intervention; i.e. coding errors. Work with Global Reinsurance on inquiries related to global treaties.
- Maintain the MS Access databases for reinsurance.
- Prepares check requisitions or wire transfer requests to settle accounts with brokers and/or reinsurers.
- Provides the cash application unit with clear instructions on how to allocate payments being made or receipts being requested.
- Recommends improvements to reporting and collections processes.
- Acts as lead person/supervisor in the unit by providing technical direction to less experienced associates.
- Assists with monthly and quarterly financial reporting (i.e. Rec Pay, Plan/Forecast, and Schedule F).
Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or equivalent training.
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience in the property casualty insurance (public or private).
-Advanced knowledge of the reinsurance industry.
- CPA Preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, analytical and customer service skills.
- Strong understanding of MS Access and Excel

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
• Consolidate analytics from General Accounting and Technical Accounting close to generate legal entity analytics for subsidiary companies
• Support external reporting requirements on a legal entity basis (10Q/10K and Statutory Reporting)
• Conduct ad-hoc reporting and analysis
• Provide various analysis as part of the quarterly review and annual audit processes
• Assist in the integration of the close process with the General Accounting and Technical Accounting groups
• Prepare the company's subsidiaries data for quarterly filings
• Prepare Board materials for legal entity purposes
• Create analyses through the use of data extraction from critical systems
Required Skills / Qualifications:
• Experienced accountant with an understanding of technical reinsurance accounting requirements with minimum 2 years insurance experience preferred
